About Our Lead Work Service
Lead is the most durable material for waterproofing the critical junctions on a roof — where the roof meets a chimney, wall or valley. Done properly, lead work lasts 50–100 years. High and Dry take pride in carrying out all lead work to BS EN 12588 standards, correctly dressed and with adequate movement allowance.
Chimney Flashings
Step flashings and back gutters at chimneys are a frequent cause of leaks when they fail. We install correctly sized and weighted lead, properly dressed into mortar joints and lapped correctly to the roof covering.
Valley Flashings
Open or secret lead valleys require careful installation to ensure they handle high rainfall without overflow. We form lead valleys to the correct width and fall with adequate side laps.
Wall Abutments
Where a roof pitch meets a vertical wall — on extensions and dormers for example — correctly formed step and cover flashings are essential to prevent water tracking behind the roof covering.
Soakers & Trays
Soakers are individual lead pieces fitted between each course of slates or tiles at abutments. We cut and fold soakers correctly for a permanent, watertight seal at every course.
